After booting for the first time i notice the system was working on harddisk maybe reconstracting information files aater defrag - i don't know - and the free space came down to I think the most thorough way to run a defragmentation is to run a full check disk first - the one that also checks the free space - this takes a while - which is why it is often skipped :- ; and then run a defragmentation, - in a situation like that I would be very surprised to learn that the defragmentation had "recovered" any harddisk space whatsoever.

The windows defrag is actually really good but some people tend to believe it;s not with no proof. It defrags in the background and even if you install a 3rd party defrag windows defrag is still on the PC.

Read the link I pasted a little ways up. If you knew what the actual difference was between defragging programs, you'd quickly see that Windows Defrag is as good or better than any commercial or freeware defragger. Well considering windows defrag in vista is free and works in the background i would say its the best.

Nobody is providing any proof why somebody should spend any money to buy another defrag program when there is the free one with windows vista. Its GUI is marvelous and it gives you the options that you need and nothing extra that is useless, unlike Diskeeper whose Smart Defragment tool randomly begins to defrag your hard drive as you game.

I defragged both my drives with the vista defrag before running it to see if it would find stuff the default one couldn't. It found that the C drive was 0. Is there something I'm missing? What makes it so much better for basic defragging? Defragmenters like PerfectDisk and Diskeeper have all kind of benefits over the Windows Defragmenter. It does not really tell you how well the fragmentation process went but as you could see from the visuals above, it is quite effective.
